New Painting Coming to Serena & Lily

Blue and Grey Harmony

This is a new 24" x 24" painting on Serena & Lily. Blue and Grey Harmony. I like playing with the balance of grey shades with the brighter oranges, reds, and blues.

Close-Up Details

Today I thought I would share some close-up detailed images of my paintings to show their texture. I use a palette knife to paint with to get a thick layer of paint, that is not always apparent from photos. These views show how textured they can get! I love the feel of thick paint and hope my clients like their unique look.

I do not varnish my paintings, because of the thickness of the paint, which is dry to the touch in 5-10 days, and safe for handling, but the layers are not 'hard' enough for applying a varnish for at least a year! Varnishing a painting too soon can cause problems for the painting down the line. I also prefer the look of a low-gloss paint film versus a glossy varnished-look. It is a more Modern look and fits my style. The oil paints I use have a rich, vibrant color all their own!

The bottom picture shows the depth of the canvas, which I paint on all sides. Most of my larger canvases are 1 3/8" thick (like the example above). And the smaller work (like 8x10 or 12x12) are 7/8" deep.

HGTV Magazine!

These two paintings were recently purchased by HGTV Magazine for inclusion in one of their upcoming issues! I will post when the issue hits the new stands, a few months from now.

From Field to Field

From Field to Field

16" x 20" Oil Paint on Canvas

Available at Etsy

I tried to create layers of texture and color, almost quilt-like. The sky has a lot of waves of impasto, and I was very happy with how the land just floats and continues into the sky.

Blue Midnight

Blue Midnight I & II

8" x 10"

Sold

These were two fun experiments with night paintings. I was happy with the dramatic look the dark added as a background. Both have sold, although I don't copy any of my paintings,  I am always happy to do a similar one as a commission in any size.

Country Road

Country Road 18"x36"

Available at Etsy.

This is a scene just outside of Fort Worth...a winding country road dotted with farms and perfect clouds!

Sheep Duo

Sheep Duo 14" x 14" Available at Etsy

I did two paintings in this style. One has sold and this fun pair is still available. The neutral background really makes the color stand out.

Simple Living V

Simple Living V 6" x 8" Oil Painting on Canvas. Sold.

The Road Home

The Road Home 10" x 30" Oil on Canvas. Available Sold.

I have been doing a lot of paintings lately in a long, narrow format. This is one of the larger ones and I was really please with the drama this size creates. The long vistas of flat, farmland, really inspire my landscapes.

Farm to Market

Farm to Market 12" x 12" oil on canvas. Sold.

This little painting is an homage to all those lonely little roads that criss cross through the US, leading to farms and ranches.

Sheep in the Green Pastureland

Sheep in the Green Pastureland 8" x 8" Sold

This was a lot of fun. I love the shape of sheep and this guy looks like one of the puffy clouds in the background. The painting has a lot of thick impasto and it was all done with a palette knife, which creates a lot of spontaneity.

In the Valley

In the Valley. 6"x8" oil painting on canvas. Sold.

Farmhouse Simplicity

Farmhouse Simplicity. 6"x8" oil painting on canvas. Sold

Sheep at the Stone Farmhouse

Sheep at the Stone Farmhouse. Oil painting on canvas 16" x 20" Available at Etsy.

I was interested in the texture of this old farmhouse, and improvised the landscape. I think the sheep add a lot of personality to the scene.

Farmland Group

Farmland Group 6"x8" Oil painting on canvas. Sold

Clouds Roll By II

Clouds Roll By II. 16" x 16." Available at Etsy.

I have been experimenting with clouds. Big rolling clouds. I have two others in this set that I will post soon. I was pleased with the colors of this one, esp. the teal/aqua sky.

Walk On By

Walk on By 12" x 12" Available at Etsy

Chickens! So much pride and personality!  There is a lot of impasto paint on this one, using mainly a palette knife. I really enjoyed creating the textured ground with so much rich color.

Promise of Living

Promise of Living. Oil painting on canvas 24" x 24". Available on Etsy.

This is a larger version of a painting I did a few months ago, which was very popular and was sold by Serena & Lily Bazaar. The title comes from a piece of Aaron Copland's Tender Land opera. It is a simple image, but is painted in thick impasto with a lot of great texture. I always paint the edges, so it can be hung with or without a frame.

New Work

These three paintings are my newest pieces, please contact me for availability.

All are 16" x 16"

This was a fun piece to paint, full of thick impasto and bright spring color.
