Blue Midnight

Blue Midnight I & II
8" x 10"
Sold

These were two fun experiments with night paintings. I was happy with the dramatic look the dark added as a background. Both have sold, although I don't copy any of my paintings,  I am always happy to do a similar one as a commission in any size.

The Road Home

The Road Home 10" x 30" Oil on Canvas. Available Sold.

I have been doing a lot of paintings lately in a long, narrow format. This is one of the larger ones and I was really please with the drama this size creates. The long vistas of flat, farmland, really inspire my landscapes.

This little painting is an homage to all those lonely little roads that criss cross through the US, leading to farms and ranches.

Sheep in the Green Pastureland

Sheep in the Green Pastureland 8" x 8" Sold

This was a lot of fun. I love the shape of sheep and this guy looks like one of the puffy clouds in the background. The painting has a lot of thick impasto and it was all done with a palette knife, which creates a lot of spontaneity.

Let's Talk

Let's Talk 12" x 12" oil on canvas. Available at Etsy.

This was just a fun exercise with color! I wanted the blues and greens of the birds to really pop! The orange isn't quite as bright as the top photo shows.

The Gift to be Simple II

The Gift to be Simple II 12" x 12" Available at Etsy

My paintings are a kind of Contemporary Americana, celebrating the rural landscape. The title of this piece comes from a Shaker melody:

"'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free
'Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
'Twill be in the valley of love and delight."

Cardinal

Cardinal 8" x 8" Oil painting on canvas. Available on Etsy

This was a fun one to do. I just wanted to play with the teal and red, which I think work really well together. I am hoping to do several more birds soon.

The Round Barn

The Round Barn 8" x 10" oil on canvas $85 on Etsy

Round Barns were popular in the mid- 19th century through the early 20th century, throughout the US. I remember seeing a few growing up in Indiana, and am thinking of painting a series of these unique beauties.

Quilted Land V

Quilted Land V 8" x 8" oil painting on canvas. Sold

This is another in my "quilted fields" series. I love the idea of patchwork colors on the farmland.
